Accountabilities & Functional Responsibilities
  • Performs DNA matching and statistical analysis of kinship and direct DNA matches related to the genetic activities of the GEO/ABK/SO Missing file or other contexts, or quality control of DNA matches;
  • Designs and conducts procedures for a systematic process of DNA matching and statistical analysis of DNA matches using specialized software (e.g. DNA-VIEW™, Familias 3);
  • Drafts and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidelines, policies and forms for the DNA matching and statistical analysis procedures.
  • Issues Kinship and other DNA reports.
  • Provides training sessions and workshops in DNA matching and statistical analysis internally and externally
  • Conducts assessment of laboratories' DNA related data management and DNA matching procedures.
  • Provides support and advising in implementation of specialized software for DNA matching and DNA data management.
  • Communicates with ICRC external experts about statistical analysis, kinship analysis and DNA matching procedures when necessary.

Requirements
  • Postgraduate degree in Biology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Forensic Genetics or similar sciences.
  • Proficient command of English (C1) and knowledge of ICRC's languages (French, Arabic, Spanish, Russian) is desirable.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in DNA Matching using specialized Statistical softwares (e.g. DNA View, Familias or similar software), and at least 6 years' experience in case management and forensic practice applied to humanitarian field.
  • Contribution to scientific publications on forensic practice, especially in the humanitarian field a strong asset.
  • Experience in negotiations and public relations, particularly in promoting the professional and ethical standards in their field of expertise.
  • Training experience is an asset.

  • Strongly motivated by humanitarian work.
  • Has the willingness to work with one of well known humanitarian actors.
  • Willing to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Has a good understanding of ICRC's mandate and activities.
  • Possess the knowledge and experience in mass-identification.

Our operational & field constraints
  • According to our principle of neutrality, the ICRC does not assign personnel to a country of which they are nationals.
  • Candidates must be in good health and will have to do a medical check-up prior to departure in the field.
  • Must possess a driving license (for manual transmission vehicles).
  • Should be prepared to accept unaccompanied postings (i.e. no spouse, partner, children or dependents) for at least the first 12 to 24 months.
